Oak Furniture Land pays tribute to National Railway Museum at new store opening

Oak Furniture Land paid tribute to York's famous attraction, The National Railway Museum, at the official opening of its York superstore on Saturday 26th July. A cake replica of the museum's famous Duchess of Hamilton steam engine was given to museum staff and volunteers as the Museum begins the two month countdown to the start of the 2014 trainspotting season. The cake sculpture has been designed by acclaimed cake artist Molly Robbins of Molly’s Creative Cakes and CakeBomb.

Oak Furniture Land, one of the UK’s largest retailers of solid hardwood furniture, commissioned the confectionery creation to celebrate its arrival in town and to pay tribute to one of the world's largest and most famous railway museums.

Amy Banks, project manager for the trainspotting season at the National Railway Museum, says: “This cake tribute to the hobby of trainspotting featuring streamlined steam icon Duchess of Hamilton is a wonderful gesture to mark that it’s just two months to go until our 2014 trainspotting season opens, and demonstrates how the pastime inspires artistic creation. We are working hard on planning our season of events, which includes an art commission by acclaimed artist Andrew Cross and theatrical performances and family trails, so this cake will be very welcome to our staff and volunteers. We are delighted to welcome Oak Furniture Land to the area and wish them every success for the future.”

Store manager Jason Matthews says: “We are pleased to donate the cake to the National Railway Museum. This is our first store in York and it joins our Leeds, Huddersfield, Hull and Sheffield stores to make it our fifth in Yorkshire.”

Councillor Linsay Cunningham-Cross of York City Council says: “This new Oak Furniture Land store is a welcome investment bringing new jobs to the local area. It is a great addition to the wide choice of shops already available at Clifton Moor. We are delighted to welcome Oak Furniture Land to York.”
