Retail sales manager completes 874-mile virtual walk for charity

Norfolk-based independent carpet and furniture retailer, John Doe of Diss, has championed one of its sales managers while he has tackled an 874-mile virtual walk – the equivalent of walking from Land’s End to John O'Groats.

Raising money for Nature and Nurture, a charity offering therapeutic services to children, adolescents and adults who have been affected by bereavement, John Doe sales manager Stewart Walker has raised over £2600 for the charity – +50% more than his original goal.

Starting in Norfolk and plotting his mileage at the end of each day, Stewart finished his challenge at bed manufacturer Harrison Spinks in Yorkshire. Embarked upon for personal reasons as well as to raise money for a cause close to his heart, Stewart was recently diagnosed with first-stage hypertension, and advised to increase exercise and lose weight.

Stewart comments: “To start off with, exercising that much was really hard, but I soon got into the swing of things and it became addictive. It’s definitely something I’ll keep doing and I’m incredibly proud of the money we’ve raised. I’ve also managed to bring my blood pressure down, which was no mean feat! I realised I was only a few miles short of my target when I was due to visit Harrison Spinks and look at the new Somnus range – so ending the challenge there and being welcomed by so many friendly faces was brilliant.”

Nick Booth, MD at Harrison Spinks, says: “It was a privilege to see Stewart finish his epic 874-mile walk. We were proud to host him, and hope he enjoyed seeing the new Somnus range as well as having a well-deserved cuppa.”
