Retailer Myakka recently marked its first birthday with a weekend of promotions and celebrations. The shop has become a fixture on Guildford High Street since it opened last year. It has brought its own unique style to the town with fair trade furniture and soft furnishing and lighting collections that are exclusive to Myakka, complemented by a varied range of accessories and gifts.
Founder and director Georgie Hopkins says: “It has been a really exciting first year. We have traded successfully online and through mail order catalogues for many years, but we know from experience with our warehouse outlet in Somerset that customers like to check out the ranges and quality for themselves, especially for the larger furniture pieces. Footfall and positive sales figures for the shop over the last 12 months have proven the case. Valuable face to face contact and feedback from customers also provides rich learning not so readily available from website and catalogue customers.”
The Right Honourable Anne Milton MP says: “It was great to be part of the celebrations for Myakka’s first birthday in Guildford! After visiting the Myakka store last summer during Independents’ Day, it’s so good to hear from the team and learn more about their future plans. With its strong focus on ethical and fair trading, Myakka is a great example of an independent business in our constituency that brings something unique to Guildford High Street. I wish the team every success in the future!"
