Trade association the British Furniture Manufacturers has elected a new board member, with a remit to support its new retail membership category.
James Heese, commercial director at ScS, will provide insight to help the BFM develop its offer to members in this emerging area.
ScS was among the first major retailers to join the BFM’s Approved Retailer category, along with Furniture Village. Launched at this year's January Furniture Show, the new membership category welcomes retailers into the organisation which are committed to selling and promoting British-made goods, and is open to retailers across the UK.
James says: "ScS was delighted to be an inaugural retail member of the BFM, and we are now keen to play an active role within the association. As a board member, I’ll be particularly keen to work across the industry to support the development of new talent and career paths in the industry.
“That will include support for the BFM’s new Future of Furniture initiative, which highlights the career opportunities in the sector, as well as work in sustainability. Collectively, we can work together to promote the industry and UK manufacturing.”
Nick Garratt, BFM chair, says: “James’ appointment to the board reflects BFM’s commitment to the Approved Retailer membership programme. We are developing a framework that allows manufacturers and retailers to work together to promote the value of buying British goods.”
