ScS has donated £27,000 to homelessness charity Shelter, as part of its ongoing support of the organisation and its bid to end homelessness in the UK.
The money has been donated as part of ScS’ Step Up for Shelter fundraiser, which challenged the retailer’s employees across the country to get active and cover a combined distance of 27,000 miles, whether by walking, running, cycling or swimming.
Over 300 staff members took part, which resulted in the initial target being surpassed and a total of 34,305 miles being covered in total. On top of the £27,000 donation, employees also raised £1325 through a JustGiving page, all of which will go to Shelter.
Earlier this year, the retailer announced it would be partnering with Shelter, and gave £25,000 to support Shelter’s services, including its telephone and online advice services. On top of monetary donations, it was also revealed that ScS would donate furniture to Shelter’s own retail stores. The latest figures show that £56,000 of funds have been raised through the selling of stock, meaning over £100,000 has been donated to date, with more fundraising efforts and stock donation planned for later in the year.

The ScS team has been keen to get involved in showing their support for this amazing charity and all the work they do to end the housing emergency. We’re excited to continue supporting Shelter and get the team involved in more fundraising activities later in the year.”
John Hibbert, head of partnership management at Shelter, adds: “We are delighted that ScS became an official Shelter partner earlier this year and that their employees are so engaged with stock drives, volunteering and fundraising. £27k could fund our emergency helpline for a week, answering on average 118 urgent calls a day.
