ScS manager is FIRA's newest council member

Rob Jones, head of after-sales for ScS, has joined the Furniture Industry Research Association’s council.

Michael Powell, chairman of the association – a unique, not-for-profit membership-based organisation – comments: “We are very pleased to welcome Rob to the association’s council. He has gained a wealth of experience in furniture manufacture and retail, so will be able to add this viewpoint to influence decisions to invest in projects that benefit the industry and address current issues. This position further strengthens the range of expertise within the council, and we look forward to working with Rob going forward.”

Originally trained as an engineer within the automotive supply chain industry, Rob progressed into senior management roles. It was during this time that he undertook a Master of Business Administration degree producing a thesis on lean manufacturing, which became the blueprint for his company’s manufacturing strategy. He joined the Silentnight Group in 2002, and in his role as quality and projects director for Silentnight he was responsible for product, process and customer service improvement projects across the group, encompassing the manufacture of beds, cabinets and sofas.

Rob’s national role at ScS includes responsibilities for customer service, upholstery repair operations, and supplier development. Rob switched from supply to retail by joining ScS in 2006. He says that being able to see issues from "both sides", end to end, has enabled him to deliver improvements in product quality and customer service for both ScS and its supply chain.
