Senator to hold 'green' event

The largest UK manufacturer of office furniture and recent winner of a sustainability award will be opening its doors to the furniture industry for a one-off event (Wednesday 13th November) to help promote sustainable working.

Senator, based in Accrington, is one of the oldest and most active members of the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP). Leading the way in working sustainably, they will share their experiences and provide an insight into how it has achieved success in both reducing its effect on the environment and working more efficiently to minimise costs.

This exclusive event, run by FISP, is free of charge and has only a limited number of spaces available. It is open to anyone within the industry who is keen to hear about how working sustainably can benefit their business. It takes place on Wednesday 13th November at Senator’s head office in Accrington between 10am and 12:30pm, and lunch will be provided.

The Lancashire company is also the winner of The Furniture Makers’ Sustainability Award for 2013 and is a leading investor in R&D and design.

Paul Clarke, commercial director for Senator, explains his experience of becoming a member of FISP: “Far from being the expected hindrance to conducting business, FISP gave us the opportunity to improve our bottom line by turning apparent negatives into real positives.

“FISP membership opened our eyes to the extra responsibilities that sustainability certification gave Senator over those previously covered by ISO 14001 Environmental Standard. It provided the catalyst for us to completely re-examine and re-think those activities which affect sustainability in its many wider forms. We were able to create a win-win situation for the company, the environment and our customers.”

The day will include presentations from Senator and FISP representatives, sharing experiences and concluding with a guided tour of the factory.
