In the Christmas week John Lewis posted sales of £129.2m, up 2.3% on last year. This figure is suppressed due to the first day of Clearance in its shops moving into the following week.
The shopping days before Christmas were busy, with customers making last-minute purchases in store and picking up Click & collect orders until closing on Christmas Eve. Johnlewis.com had a strong week with sales up 25.1% on last year and a record volume of customers visited the John Lewis app.
Home was up 0.7% driven by exceptionally strong sales in seasonal items, up 49.2%. Clearance on johnlewis.com got off to a flying start at 5pm on Christmas Eve with orders up 17.7% for the first full hour compared to the same time last year. John Lewis' Magna Park distribution centre dispatched record levels of Click & collect orders on Boxing Day for collection the next day.
