Last week continued the pattern John Lewis has seen since Christmas, providing a solid sales increase of 4.8%. This was rooted in Online and a combination of the Fashion and Home directorates. It rounded off another strong year for sales, which have been nicely ahead of the market, and reflects the role shops and online are playing supporting one another.
Home rounded off its best year for many with a successful week in Furniture, with Beds as the star. Gifts and Textiles also stood out.
John Lewis' website completed a powerful year as it exploited higher traffic and conversion on the site.
Among the shops, the at home stores once again lead the way. Chester took up the baton in week 53, but for the year Newbury, Chichester, Poole and Tamworth all cleared 10%. The highlights have, however, been the impressive growth at High Wycombe after the refurbishment, and the new energy at both Stratford and Norwich.
