The Foam Company opens new distribution centre

The Foam Company, one of the UK’s leading experts in foam products, has doubled its operating space with a new southern distribution centre.

The new 7000 sq ft facility, close to the company’s head office in Abingdon, allows for the storage of 750 finished mattresses and enables the company to treble its production.

Michael Nash, MD, says: “This expansion will fundamentally change the way we manufacture, from a ‘make to order’ system, to holding stocks of fast moving items. Not only will this enable us to offer quicker delivery, it will also treble our weekly output capability in order to service the significant levels of growth we are experiencing.”

To further improve lead times and manage the growing business, the company has also increased its fleet of vehicles, which are used for weekly and next day deliveries to all areas of the UK. This now includes 7.5 tonne trucks, 3.5 tonne Luton vans and the recently-purchased new mobile unit.

Another addition to the fleet is a 14-seater minibus which is used to transport staff from their homes in nearby Didcot, following its move to Abingdon last year – free of charge.

Michael continues: “2015 was a great year for the company. We want to continue to bring new innovations to the market, with proven benefits to the consumer. We try not to launch gimmicks and invest lots of time and money into making sure what we say is backed up by good evidence. We will continue to develop our core SleepShaper and Revitalise products and are looking forward to an even better future. Most importantly, we want to be the best service provider in our industry, and the new distribution centre is critical to that strategy.”
