The Shire Bed Company continues to expand

The Shire Bed Company is continuing to expand its major manufacturing facility in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, bringing its total investment so far this year to nearly £2.5m.

With the business growing and new products in the pipe-line, the company has acquired a further 60,000 square feet, increasing the size of the operation to over 100,000 square feet.

The family-run business has been at its current location since 2001 and has already invested nearly £750,000 to expand and restructure its site, creating work for an additional 20 staff.

Other investments this year have included over £100,000 in the purchase of a new automatic, all-in-one, top of the range, border, handle and label machine for its mattresses and the delivery of two new DAF delivery vehicles.

The trucks complement its already extensive fleet of vehicles which are used for weekly and next day deliveries to all areas of the UK.

Fara Butt, marketing director at The Shire Bed Company, says: “It’s been a really busy year. With the initial stage of the expansion now complete the extra space has allowed us to restructure and begin production of the new Roll and Rest collection.

“Purchase of the new site means we can continue to grow the business, giving us the opportunity to develop and enhance our portfolio, providing our customers with a more comprehensive range of products.”

The company, which produces the Shire collection, Eco Shire, Active Shire and Contract Shire is to launch the Roll and Rest collection at the Bed Show in September.

The Shire Bed Company produces high quality beds, mattresses and divan bases and supplies nationally and internationally to major retailers and the contract sector including education, care and hospitality.
