The Sleep Council introduces Sleeptember campaign

The Sleep Council has launched a new month-long awareness campaign, Sleeptember, to highlight the healthy benefits of a good night’s sleep.

“We’ve all heard of Movember, which has been a huge success in raising the awareness of men’s health,” says Lisa Artis of The Sleep Council. “At the Sleep Council we like to embrace new ideas for getting our messages across to the public, and we felt that a month dedicated to highlighting the importance of sleep was a fun way of doing that.

“While there will be the normal PR activity around the campaign, Sleeptember is primarily a social media-driven campaign, and we will be using our Facebook and Twitter pages to spread the word about getting a better night’s sleep – how to do it, why it’s good for you, etc. We’ve also teamed up with a couple of partners – This Works, an award-winning natural beauty range, and Tune Hotels, a growing chain of properties that have embraced the limited service model used by low cost airlines, to help promote the campaign with some give-aways.”

The Sleep Council is also urging retailers and manufacturers to get behind Sleeptember, with a new retailer toolkit that is available to download.

The kit includes the Sleeptember logo, a poster which can be printed at any size, two banner options and an animated banner for use on websites, as well as a downloadable fact sheet and Facebook/Twitter calendar.

“We’ve tried to give retailers as many tools as possible to get on board with Sleeptember,” says Lisa. “While we appreciate there are some retailers out there who are very social media-savvy, there are many who are still getting to grips with it. The Facebook/Twitter calendar gives a schedule of possible tweets and Facebook updates which users can literally just copy and paste.

“It really is important that we get the backing and support of the industry on this campaign, like we do for National Bed Month and National Sleep In Day, to make it a success. It’s another opportunity for retailers to promote, and ultimately sell, more beds!"
