The UK furniture market increased by 3% in 2015 to £10.6b at manufacturers’ prices, according to a report by the BFM. The total value of furniture produced by all UK manufacturers fell by 1.6% in 2015 YOY, but imports grew by 10.2%.
UK manufactured sales as a percentage of net supply fell from 47% to 44%. UK export sales improved by 8% in the year.
The report analyses various market criteria across 10 subsectors. Among these sectors there was a mix of performances, with some dominated by UK producers and others where importers hold sway.
The UK market for the 10 subsectors combined declined by 6% in 2015 to £5.2b in total, but UK-manufactured sales made up over £4.2b of this figure – 80% of the total market share – a rise of 0.9% YOY.
