Upholders scheme recognises industry professionals

Three professionals from across the upholstery and interiors sector have been recognised for their skills and contribution to the trade through the Master Certificate Scheme of the Worshipful Company of Upholders.

Master certificates have been awarded to upholsterer Kirsty Lockwood, founder of Kirsty Lockwood Furnishings based in Mid-Wales, and Maureen Whitemore, interior designer at Whitemore & Thwaites Interiors in Penrith.

An apprentice certificate has been awarded to Alex Brady, an upholsterer based in Didcot.

The awards were presented on 12th March at Mansion House by the Lady Mayor of the City of London, Dame Susan Langley DBE, and the master of the upholders, Roger Wates.

The Master Certificate Scheme is a UK initiative recognising excellence, professional development and career progression across a range of trades. It is delivered in partnership with City & Guilds and London Livery Companies.

The Worshipful Company of Upholders, one of the historic livery companies of the City of London, continues to play an active role in supporting the upholstery and soft furnishings industry through education, professional recognition and engagement with the wider trade.

The awards celebrate both established professionals and those beginning their careers, recognising the importance of maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and encouraging the next generation entering the sector.
