Westbridge Furniture Designs' IKEA deal could create 200 jobs

Westbridge Furniture Designs is the largest manufacturer of upholstered furniture in the UK. Based in North Wales, the team have been supplying furniture to the main UK retailers for over 25 years. Westbridge employ 650 people across two manufacturing sites and produce around 5000 pieces of furniture per week.

Over the past year, Westbridge have worked closely with IKEA, with the aim of being selected to produce the upholstered models that IKEA sell from their UK stores. These efforts have been rewarded with a significant level of business being gained which has resulted in the opening of a large manufacturing facility (140,000 sqft) in North Wales and the anticipated creation of 200 jobs over the next two years. Production began two months ago and capacity will be built up quickly over the coming year.

“Trading has been difficult over the past few years and we have worked hard to maintain employment and offer great value to our customers. We can see consumer confidence beginning to grow now with autumn sales increasing from all customers. We are delighted with the business expansion for IKEA and the boost to the local economy that the additional jobs will bring,” says MD Paul Islip.
