Youngsters’ designs to raise vital funds for children’s literacy charity

Furniture and flooring specialist ScS has launched a nationwide fundraiser for children’s literacy charity, Springboard for Children, through bookmark designs created by two school children.

The company held a competition for its employees’ children to come up with a design for a bookmark earlier in the year. The winners were Niamh Stell, aged 10, who entered a striking owl creation, and Harvey Lee Hunt, aged 4, with his inspired ogre-themed design.

Having worked together with printing agency Aztec Colourprint, both designs are now available at all 96 ScS stores nationwide with all proceeds going to Springboard for Children, who work in socially and economically disadvantaged areas unlocking the potential of children who struggle to read and write.

Sacha Beere, operations director at ScS, says: “We were really impressed with all the entries we received however the winning designs stood out for being vibrant, very detailed and well executed, therefore we thought it would be great to share them with the general public and help generate vital funds at the same time. Through sales of Niamh and Harvey’s bookmarks we hope to raise monies to be able to help those children most in need of extra support with their reading and writing.”

Celebratory assemblies took place at both winners’ schools where they were presented their prizes by the company, which also included a donation of books for their school. Over 8s competition winner Niamh was also able to visit the printer to see first-hand the bookmarks go to print.
Niamh says: “I was really happy to win the competition and even more excited to see my bookmark design come to life at the factory. It’s even more special that my design will now help other children, just like me, with their reading and writing.”

Naeman Symonds-Baig, fundraising manager at Springboard for Children, says: “Literacy skills are really important whatever your age, they help us all in our everyday lives, whether at school, home or at work. All the money raised will be used to provide specialist tuition for disadvantaged children who struggle to learn to read and write, so why not help us help more children who need our support by visiting your local ScS store and picking up a bookmark.”
