Billiani’s brave new world

Italian furniture company, Billiani, has unveiled its latest designer collection, Inka. Conceived by Italian architect and designer Roberto Romanello, the collection is comprised of solid wood, and features clean, crisp lines.

Since 1911, Billiani has been recognised as one of Italy’s most progressive furniture producers – both in terms of its management structure and its innovative collections. No stranger to designer collaborations, the company places an emphasis on creativity and functionality, exploring structures and styles which are far beyond the typical furniture manufacturer.

But in Inka, the company has pushed its creative efforts to an all-time high – and with it, offers an entirely new proposition for modern furniture design.

“The complex creative process of Roberto’s design is hallmarked by a deep technological know-how, and a perfect balance of geometric forms and proportions”

After decades of industrial tradition in woodworking, Billiani recently made the move into upholstered furniture, characterised by the same values as its traditional wood pieces – elegance, high quality finishes, ergonomic comfort, functionality and durability.
For Inka, Roberto Romanello combined his penchant for form and function – which typically results in sleek, minimalist design – with Billiani’s century-old dedication to using only premium materials. The resulting collection comprises a selection of over 13 styles with 39 options – ensuring there is something for all tastes and requirements.

The quality of materials used to produce Inka further enhances the collection’s suitability for both residential and commercial interiors. Steel cores, fire-resistant polyurethane and multiple layers of wood feature in almost every piece. Various fabrics, including microfibre, leather and one-colour textiles, are available.

Bold, modern silhouettes define the collection – the designs are relatively simple, yet provide a dominant, austere solution for contemporary interiors.

While created with both residential and commercial use in mind, it is likely that end users will fall into the latter category due to Inka’s professional, controlled design. The complex creative process of Roberto’s design is hallmarked by a deep technological know-how, and a perfect balance of geometric forms and proportions. Inka is no exception – aesthetically, each of the Inka chairs appear to defy gravity. Featuring only two legs, or sides, the collection emits a futuristic, yet simplistic, appeal.

In all, the Inka collection comprises four occasional chairs, two mid-height stools, an innovative wheeled seat, three armchairs, benches, and one office-like sofa. Inka is completed with footstools and occasional furniture.

A selection of fabrics and coverings is available in relatively sombre hues – making Inka appealing for interiors that require muted, minimalist pieces. However, in keeping with Billiani’s approach toward creavitity, further customisation is available on request, making Inka an attractive proposition for those with more specific aesthetic values.
