For premium furniture manufacturer Home Spirit, every metre of linen matters, writes cutting technology specialist Lectra …
Known for its high-end sofas crafted from premium linen, the French company faced a challenge familiar to many manufacturers – how to improve operational performance and reduce material waste without compromising quality or craftsmanship.
Home Spirit's challenges constrained its ability to scale efficiently and adapt to evolving business demands. To support its modernisation journey, Home Spirit chose Valia Furniture, the 2026 Furniture News Readers’ Choice Award-winning solution from Lectra, which helps manufacturers optimise material usage and streamline production from order preparation to cutting.
Rather than relying on fixed cutting plans, the solution enables cutting layouts to be generated according to actual fabric dimensions, maximising material utilisation and improving production accuracy, says Lectra: "The impact was immediate. By adapting cutting plans to real production conditions, Home Spirit achieved material consumption reductions ranging from approximately 10% to as much as 25%, depending on production scenarios."
According to Lectra, the company also significantly: reduced unused fabric stock; enhanced cutting precision and product quality for complex materials such as linen; improved alignment between orders, cutting and production workflows; streamlined operations and increased operational agility with existing teams; and reduced dependency on manual expertise and paper-based co-ordination.
René‑Jacques Dufour, CEO of Home Spirit, explains: “Before Valia Furniture, we were losing part of our fabric. Today, every roll is used much more efficiently. We couldn’t imagine working the same way as before.”
By modernising production with Valia Furniture, Home Spirit has gained a stronger foundation for managing variability, optimising material usage and supporting future growth. The move also positions Home Spirit to scale its operations more effectively while maintaining competitiveness in the premium furniture segment, Lectra concludes.
