Sweet Dreams expands premises in line with burgeoning product base

Some 25 years ago, managing director Riaz Ahmed founded the company making headboards – in just one style and colour – in Burnley, Lancashire. Since then, the company has developed significantly, providing the market with a myriad of high quality bedroom furniture options.

When Riaz expanded into beds, the company grew rapidly. When former colleague Stephen Boyd joined Riaz at Sweet Dreams, the two worked hard together to expand the bed collection and further develop the business. Following Stephen’s retirement in 2004, Jackie McGarvey, who first joined Sweet Dreams in 1993, took over as sales manager.

For many years, Sweet Dreams focused on beds, and this still remains the core of its business. Today, Sweet Dreams sells approximately 40 styles of headboards, and around the same number of bedframes, including three TV-ready fabric upholstered beds.
Children’s beds, bunk beds and space-savers, too, are important ranges for Sweet Dreams – and the company will be launching new models for 2013, as well as new bedframes and upholstery.

To keep prices stable, to maintain a consistent quality, and in a bid to safeguard local employment, more and more of Sweet Dreams’ product offering is produced in-house at its Primrose Mill, Burnley, premises – including its sofas and sofabeds.

However, the company still relies on external suppliers for its cabinet ranges and for a number of children’s beds and bunks – but the large majority of the other lines are made in Lancashire.

Because of its commitment to local manufacturing, Sweet Dreams recently started work on a new showroom and warehouse at a 50,000ft2 site adjacent to its existing Primrose Mill. 5000ft2  has been set aside for a new showroom, with the rest of the space due to be used for warehousing.

This ensures that the company can continue to serve its customers efficiently and effectively from its Burnley base, given its newly-extended lines of Sweet Dreams’ own-made products, as well as reaffirming its commitment to 10 or 15 working day delivery in the UK.

A number of Sweet Dreams’ new additions will be shown at Interiors UK on its stand, G60, hall 5. Moreover, a myriad of products will be shown across its ranges, including divans, sofabeds, children’s beds and more.
