The advent of AI, gender inclusion, diversity and sustainability are some of the key themes covered at this year’s Inspiring Makers event being held on Thursday 8th May at Guildhall, Bath.
With a line-up of talks and panel discussions from leading voices in the design and making industry, the day aims to inspire future generations of craftspeople to promote hand skills and preserve the legacy of craft.
Now in its fourth year, the not-for-profit day, previously called The New Makers’ Conference, is organised by interiors brand Artichoke and The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry.
With the decline of the UK’s master furnituremakers from 90,000 to 1000 over past 150 years, Inspiring Makers offers a unique platform for emerging talent to connect with peers as well as some of the UK’s influential experts. Attendees can expect engaging topical discussions with this year’s speakers including: Bruce Hodgson, founder of Artichoke; Sean Sutcliffe, founder and chairman of Benchmark; Camilla McLean, MD, Greg Stone, creative development lead and Katy Thompson, junior furnituremaker/finisher at Matthew Cox; Selena Bolingbroke, principal of The Building Crafts College; and John Orchard, chief executive of Woodland Heritage
