Bed retailer transitions to Employee Ownership Trust

Yorkshire-based bed and mattress retailer, Time4Sleep, is putting its future in the hands of its 13 employees, cementing the people-first ethos that has driven it for over two decadee, having announced its transition to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).

Under the EOT structure, a majority stake in Time4Sleep has been transferred into a trust held on behalf of all employees. MD Jonathan Warren and his family retains a 20% personal shareholding and he will continue in this role, ensuring continuity of leadership and ensuring there is no impact on day-to-day operations, whilst empowering the team to share in the business' future prosperity.

Employees will also gain formal representation through a trust board, with a staff-elected employee trustee ensuring the team’s voice is heard at the highest level of governance. Jonathan says the business will remain independent, customer-focused, and rooted in the values that have underpinned its growth.

Founded in 2005 by Jonathan and headquartered in Elland, Yorkshire, Time4Sleep has grown from a start-up bedroom retailer into an ecommerce business generating approximately £10m in annual revenue. The company sells an exclusive range of beds, bed frames and mattresses to customers across the UK.

Jonathan says the business places a high emphasis on product quality, and ensures that all stocked beds and mattresses are tested and evaluated. This reputation for quality has also seen Time4Sleep become a go-to supplier for several high street retailers.

Jonathan adds: “Employee ownership isn’t just good for our team, it’s good for our customers. When every person in the business has a genuine stake in the outcome, the service gets better, the knowledge runs deeper, and the care people take goes up a level.

“We’ve built Time4Sleep on a simple idea – visit the factories, test the products, cut out the middleman, and sell a better bed at a price that doesn’t give customers nightmares. From our multi-million pound warehouse in the West Midlands, providing fast and reliable delivery, to our founding principle of providing high-quality beds at competitive prices and excellent customer service, every decision we make puts our customers and our staff first.

“The people who’ve helped to make Time4Sleep a success story for nearly 20 years deserve to own a piece of what they have created. This is their business now, and I can’t wait to see what we do next together.”
