Buying group Associated Independent Stores (AIS) has paid tribute to former MD Sheila Cooper, who has passed away following an illness.
Sheila worked with AIS for more than four decades, says the buying group, joining in October 1979 and remaining until July 2020.
"During her career she played an important role in the development of the business, helping guide the organisation through a significant period of growth and development," says AIS. "Many colleagues, members and suppliers worked closely with Sheila during her time with AIS and will remember her leadership and commitment to supporting the network."
Current AIS MD Sue Kemp says: "We are sad to hear of Sheila’s passing. Sheila dedicated many years to AIS and played an important role in shaping the business and the network we have today. Our thoughts are with Sheila’s family at this difficult time."
Darryl Simpson, chairman of the buying group's board, adds: "Sheila made a significant contribution to AIS during her long career and helped guide the business through an important period in its development. On behalf of the board, I would like to express our sincere condolences to Sheila’s family and to everyone who worked with her over the years."
In line with her family’s wishes, the funeral will be a private service for immediate family members only.
