Six furnishing industry professionals, led by the master of The Furniture Makers’ Company Jessica Alexander, have successfully completed a 100m abseil down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower in aid of industry charity.
The challenge took place on Sunday 13th September, with Jessica joined by: Andy Corbett, business director (comfort division) at Vita Group; Limun Wells, head of sales at Ergochair; past masters Amanda Waring and David Woodward; and furniture conservator Graham Marley.
After stepping over the edge of the 170m-tall landmark, each member of the group descended 100m while taking in views across Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent.
The team undertook the challenge to raise funds for The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry.
Jessica says: “I think all of us stepped out of our comfort zone when we moved off the platform and onto the wall of the Spinnaker Tower, almost 100m off the ground! There were wobbly legs all round when we touched down – but a huge sense of satisfaction – we did it!
“We are enormously grateful to everyone who has supported us so far. The challenge may be complete, but there is still time to donate. Every contribution will help our charity support the next generation of talent and people from our industry experiencing difficult times.”
