The master of The Furniture Makers' Company, Jessica Alexander, is set to take fundraising to new heights this September by abseiling 100m down Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower to raise money for the furniture industry's charity.
On Sunday 13th September, Jessica will be joined by five adventurous supporters as they descend one of the UK's most recognisable landmarks in aid of the furnishing industry's dedicated charity.
Joining Jessica on the challenge are: Andy Corbett, business director (comfort division) at Vita Group; Limun Wells, head of sales at Ergochair; Amanda Waring, past master of The Furniture Makers' Company; David Woodward, past master of The Furniture Makers' Company and director at Celtheath; and furniture conservator Graham Marley.
Together, the team is aiming to raise at least £5,000 to support the charity's education programme of activity and welfare grants, which help people across the furnishing industry who are facing hardship.
Jessica says: "As the furniture industry's charity, we're here to support people through some of the most difficult times in their lives. Every pound we raise enables us to continue providing that vital support, so I'm delighted to be taking on this challenge alongside such a fantastic group of volunteers from across our industry.
"Abseiling 100m down the Spinnaker Tower is certainly outside my comfort zone, but knowing we're doing it to help those starting out on their careers and colleagues throughout the furniture and furnishing sector makes it worthwhile. We hope the industry will get behind us and help us reach, or even exceed, our £5,000 fundraising target."
Richard Hale, GM at Spinnaker Tower, comments: “We’re excited to welcome Jessica and all The Furniture Makers' Company representatives for what is an unforgettable experience abseiling the 100m drop above the Solent. They will enjoy incredible views – if they dare look – a real sense of achievement. We’re looking forward to cheering them on for such a worthy cause and wish her the very best of luck.”
