James Hudson, commercial director at Gallery Direct, recently completed a 400km, four-day charity bike ride organised by Help for Heroes.
The Big Battlefield Bike Ride, which began on 24th and finished on 29th June, was organised by Help for Heroes to commemorate D-Day's 80th anniversary and Armed Forces Day, and to raise funds for the charity.
There is still time to donate to this cause – 100% of the donations James receives will go directly to the charity, to help veterans and their families. "He is well on the way to reaching his target, but he would love to raise as much as possible for the heroes who have given so much for our country, so any donations will be greatly appreciated," says Gallery.
Armed forces and military veterans’ charity Help for Heroes is close to James’ heart. During his 41 years in the furniture industry, he has spent 27 years as a member of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, which supports the military (and particularly the 2 RIFLES battalion).
He also spent seven years as part of the 5th Battalion Royal Green Jackets Reserves, where he had a small insight into the life of the regular army, and realised the struggles some soldiers have after leaving service.
On the ride James met some inspirational veterans – some cycling with missing limbs – and heard harrowing stories from injured service personnel, which has further cemented his respect for veterans and this charity.
