Magnet awarded Manufacturing Guild Mark

Magnet, one of the UK’s most recognised kitchen brands, has been awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark by The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and furnishing industry charity.

Sponsored by Biesse Group, EMST and Microvellum, the Manufacturing Guild Mark has been a mark of excellence, distinguishing Britain’s top furniture and furnishing manufacturers, since 1993, and the award highlights Magnet’s ongoing commitment to quality, craftsmanship and innovation.

With more than 100 years at the heart of British kitchens, Magnet offers a full-service kitchen experience, from inspiration to installation. Each of its kitchens is made in the UK and backed by a nationwide network of kitchen designers and over 200 showrooms.

The Manufacturing Guild Mark was officially presented to Magnet by Daniel Mesecke, chairman of the Manufacturing Guild Mark, during a ceremony at the company’s Darlington offices on 30th July attended by Magnet team members.

“This recognition is a huge testament to the dedication and skill of our teams,” says Charlie Allan, quality and technical manager at Magnet. “Quality isn’t just a target for us, it’s a mindset that’s built into everything we do. From the very first design detail to the final product checks, every kitchen we make carries that same commitment to excellence.”

The Manufacturing Guild Mark is only awarded to businesses that manufacture the majority of their products in the UK and can demonstrate outstanding standards across seven key criteria – design, product development and function, manufacture, human resources, financial stability, sustainability, and sales and marketing. Companies undergo an independent audit every three years by the Furniture Industry Research Association on behalf of The Furniture Makers’ Company to ensure their standards of operation remain high.

Magnet’s achievement reflects both the robust quality management systems in place across the business – including ISO 9001, Six Sigma methodologies, and ongoing product testing – as well as its deeply embedded culture of continuous improvement.

Daniel Mesecke comments: "Magnet impressed us across every assessment area – from their robust quality control systems and lean, well-maintained factories to their continuous improvement mindset and sustainability leadership. Their combination of in-house design expertise, rigorous testing, and commitment to UK manufacturing excellence made them a clear candidate for the Manufacturing Guild Mark.

"The factory was clean, organised, and clearly embraced a culture of continuous improvement. QA procedures were thorough, training systems were well-structured, and the focus on safety and sustainability was evident throughout. From production lines to management, the operation reflected a high-performing, forward-thinking manufacturing business.

"There were clear signs of design evolution and technical innovation at Magnet, such as the development of a new cabinet platform and upgraded components to improve strength, ease of installation, and durability – all based on real installer feedback and extensive product testing.”

Cath Harrison, head of product and sourcing at Magnet, says: “For us, the Manufacturing Guild Mark isn’t just a milestone, it’s a motivator. Achieving these high standards isn’t down to one team – it’s the result of our stores, logistics, sourcing, product development and manufacturing teams all working together. It’s a full team effort, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.”

Part of the global Nobia Group, Magnet has ambitious plans for the future, including the digitisation of inspection processes, enhanced packaging systems, and greater investment in sustainability, automation and training. The company’s commitment to responsible UK manufacturing includes the use of sustainable materials, rigorous environmental controls, and kitchens designed to last for generations.

George Dymond, EVP of Nobia UK, adds: “We’re incredibly proud to receive the Manufacturing Guild Mark. This isn’t just about meeting a standard – it’s about leading by example. It speaks to the passion, pride, and precision that run through every part of our manufacturing operation, and it reinforces our long-term commitment to quality, sustainability, and British craftsmanship. This is better by design.”

Sophie Rose, customer and commercial director at Magnet, says: “At Magnet, we know that our customers place their trust in us to deliver kitchens that are not only beautiful but built to last. The Manufacturing Guild Mark reflects everything we stand for as a business, craftsmanship, care, and a relentless focus on doing the right thing, every time.”
