Ex-Loaf director joins Bensons as COO

Bensons for Beds has announced the appointment of Rob Pierce as COO, a role which will see him become part of the retailer's executive team.

Rob, who will take up his role later this month, has significant sector, operations and customer service experience, having previously worked on the operational board for Loaf.com. Prior to this he held several operational and customer roles at Rapha Racing and John Lewis.

During his time at Loaf.com, he led cross-functional teams including warehouse, logistics, customer services and quality. Rob has played a significant role in the progression of the business in recent years and has helped to support and continue to develop a culture focused on customers.

As the new CCO, Rob will be responsible for Bensons' logistics, customer service, and overall post-purchase customer experience. Gavin Chappell, Bensons' current COO, will be leaving to take up a new role at Asda.

Nick Collard, Bensons' CEO, says: “I want to take the opportunity to welcome Rob to the business, and his deep customer-centric operational experience will be a welcome addition to the team. I also want to express our deepest thanks to Gavin for his contribution over the last few years, where he has played a critical role in returning Bensons to the profitable and growing business it is today.”

Rob adds: ”I have spent the last several years watching Bensons and looking on with admiration at the transformation that the business has gone through. To now have an active role in shaping the future of the brand and continue the great work that Nick and the team have started is really exciting.”

Elaborating on Bensons' recent performance, Nick comment: “I am also pleased to report that our continued focus on the controllables has allowed us to continue to make good progress in a market that remains challenging.

"As we come to the end of the first half of our FY it’s been pleasing to see encouraging sales growth, driven by our investment in training of our store colleagues, and digital platform, as well as the addition of a number of Carpetright stores. This, and our continued tight control of costs, has supported the continued improvement of our profitability. It’s a testament to the hard work of all our colleagues across the organisation, all of whom are dedicated to delivering our customers a better night’s sleep."
