Heatwaves drive wool bedding sales uplift, reports Woolroom

Soaring temperatures have driven a sharp rise in sales for the UK’s leading natural bedding retailer Woolroom, which reported a 53% YoY growth in overall UK sales and a record turnover of £526,000 in July 2026, up from £344,000 in July 2025.

Sales of the Rutland-based firm’s sales of wool duvets, toppers, protectors and pillows were up by 39%, natural bed linen was up by 62%, while sales of wool mattresses increased by 126% this July, in comparison to sales data from the same period last year.

Woolroom says its performance suggests consumers are turning to breathable bedding fibres to help them get a good night’s sleep during the prolonged period of heatwaves.

MD Chris Tattersall says: “July’s sales figures really have been remarkable. After almost 20 years at Woolroom, I’ve never seen such demand for wool bedding during summer months, which just shows that consumers are realising that natural bedding will help them stay cool and achieve great sleep during the heat.”

Due to the composition of air pockets within its fibres, wool is able to transmit excess heat and moisture into the air, which helps to regulate the temperature of the sleeper and wick sweat away from the body.

Chris continues: “A greater consumer understanding of wool’s benefits paints a really positive picture for wool farmers too. With wool prices recently seeing the sharpest increase in a decade, a higher demand for wool bedding and textiles means that UK farmers are being paid more fairly for their wares.

“We source our wool from the highest quality, farm-assured British farms, paying them a premium compared to the market price, so by choosing to shop with Woolroom you’re helping to support local British farmers – many of which are experiencing serious challenges brought by one of the hottest and dryest summers on record.”

The data also suggests that consumers are shopping with sustainability in mind, as wool is the only regenerative, naturally biodegradable and chemical-free bedding fibre.
