Strategy, shared direction and ambitions for sustainability and compliance were in focus as JYSK brought together 475 participants from suppliers and international traders for an inaugural event in Shanghai on 2nd June.
The retailer says the event marks an important step in its ambition to strengthen collaboration and embed compliance and sustainability efforts among its suppliers.
“Our responsibility extends beyond our own business and therefore also includes our suppliers," says Søren Lip ter Beek, compliance manager at JYSK. "We are working purposefully to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain, and we can only succeed if we do it together. That is why it is important for us to meet in person, share knowledge and motivate our suppliers and sub‑suppliers, so that together we can maintain high standards and contribute to our shared goals.”
During the event, JYSK presented potential factory‑specific reduction initiatives, expectations for data sharing, as well as the company’s SBTi‑validated climate targets aimed at reducing CO₂e emissions across the value chain.
Overall, the retailer has committed to ensuring that at least 72.5% of suppliers, measured by emissions, calculate their individual emissions and have SBTi‑approved targets by the end of 2028.
“We want to ensure an even stronger shared understanding of our strategic direction within social responsibility, environmental impact and compliance. This is the first time we are hosting an event of this kind in Asia, which underlines how important the collaboration with our Chinese suppliers and sub‑suppliers is,” says Søren.
Participants also gained insight into JYSK’s work with social and environmental audits through amfori, where minimum expectations are continuously tightened to improve conditions for workers and reduce factories’ environmental impact.
