Oak Furnitureland raises almost £500,000 for cardiovascular charity

Oak Furnitureland has raised almost £500,000 for the British Heart Foundation as it marks five years in partnership with the cardiovascular research charity.

Since 2021, Oak Furnitureland has offered a free collection service for pre-used furniture, helping customers to sustainably remove items from their home to be sold in British Heart Foundation stores.

Over the last five years, the scheme has resulted in more than 3,100 collections of furniture being donated and resold, the equivalent of 86.85 tonnes. This has generated £485,693 in sales for British Heart Foundation while supporting the circular economy.

The volume of furniture donated since the first year of the partnership has increased by over 1,500%, with 48.21 tonnes redistributed in Oak Furnitureland’s last FY alone.

The initiative has had a tangible impact on British Heart Foundation over the last five years, allowing the charity to provide funding for lifesaving heart and circulatory disease research, support PhD students and train thousands more people in CPR.

Oak Furnitureland has also extended its support of the charity beyond furniture collection, including incorporating its CPR training, RevivR, into inductions for all new employees. The team has also participated in the London Marathon to raise further funds for the charity, alongside hosting regular fundraising initiatives at their head office.

James Bell, global head of ESG, sustainability and QC at Oak Furnitureland, says: “Our partnership with British Heart Foundation is not only an amazing fundraising initiative, but also key in helping us to keep pre-loved furniture out of landfill and circulating within our communities instead. It removes the barrier to sustainable disposal – our customers can welcome fresh pieces into their homes while knowing their old furniture will find a second life with another family.

"We're incredibly proud to have helped raise almost £500,000 for British Heart Foundation over five years, and grateful to everyone, both customers and our team, who've helped us to do this.”

Megan Greenlees, trading director at British Heart Foundation, adds: “We’re grateful to everyone at Oak Furnitureland and to the thousands of customers who have chosen to donate their furniture over the last five years.

“Every sofa, table and chair donated has helped raise funds for lifesaving research and support more people affected by cardiovascular disease. Thank you for helping make a difference”

Oak Furnitureland’s partnership with British Heart Foundation forms part of its wider ESG approach, with the retailer also working with Clearabee to offer customers a discounted collection service for pre-used furniture in any condition. The organisation’s fleet of vehicles is also entirely carbon neutral. Oak Furnitureland also offers a Lifetime Furniture Guarantee on all structural elements of its furniture.
