The National Bed Federation (NBF) has relaunched its ‘Pledge for Our Planet’ and dedicated ecodesign assessment toolkit to enhance its sustainability support for NBF members.
The pledge was created in 2022 with targets linked to specific timeframes to encourage NBF-member bed manufacturers and suppliers to commit to becoming more sustainable at a company and product level.
While this remains, the trade association has removed the timeframes, allowing signatories to progress at their own pace and embed their sustainability strategy more deeply within their wider business strategy.
The pledge covers four key areas: demonstrating commitment to becoming a more sustainable business; reducing emissions; reducing waste and embrace circularity; and being transparent about sustainability performance and claims.
As ecodesign (designing products with environmental impacts in mind from the outset) becomes ever more prominent under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) legislation, the assessment toolkit now exists as its own entity, highlighting its importance and helping NBF members benchmark and improve their products’ ecodesign scores, says the federation.
The NBF Ecodesign Principles Guide remains freely available for the bed trade to download from the NBF website.
"The trade association reminds its members that support is available at every step of their journey," says the NBF. Further information about the NBF’s full sustainability support for the trade and members is available on the NBF website.
